Directions

For the crumble:

1. First things first, crank up the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4 and get your trusty ovenproof dish greased up with a generous swipe of butter.
2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the butter and flour together, then get hands-on – rub the butter into the flour until you’ve got a breadcrumb-like texture.
3. Stir in the sugar, and voilà! Crumble topping, done and dusted. Set it aside while you work on the fruity goodness.

For the filling:

1. Pop those whole, peeled pears into a pot, cover them with water, and sprinkle in 50g/1¾oz of sugar.
2. Bring it to a boil, then lower the heat and let the pears gently simmer for 10 – 12 minutes until they’re nice and tender.
